Y Staff gathers for Healthy Smoothies in the name of Giving Back

    Last updated 1 month ago

At the YMCA, believe whole heartedly in our mission - especially when it comes to giving back.

Although our branches provide great places to visit, workout, and mingle with your yoga buddy, the Y also serves as a charity for many in need.

Last year alone - 11,247 children and adults were able to participate in life-enriching programs and services they otherwise could not afford because of our scholarship program.

Our Youth and Family Services (YFS) program center serves nearly 4,000 adults and children. YFS services include counseling, mentoring, and early intervention for some of our regions neediest families and all services are offered free of charge.

It's numbers like these and more that keep us going and giving back to the cause we serve.

Yesterday our DC corporate staff held a Smoothie Party to encourage each other to keep giving. We even had a substantial number of on-the-spot giving, that will go right back to families who need us the most.

Of course, each smoothie was healthy and filled with fresh fruit, juices, protein (at request) and most importantly: love.

Our staff had a great time enjoying smoothies, giving back, and sharing their stories on our this year's Staff Giving Campaign: #YiGive.

We had a blast and will continue to be a vital piece of the communities we serve.

How cute are these eggs? Aside from their obvious cuteness, they are fun and easy to make. These edgy/modern eggs can also serve for some great decor for your Easter spread.

We spotted this post from the awesome team over at Mom.me and we thought it would be the perfect craft to share with our Y family!

Ready, Set, Glow - AKA's 7th Annual Girls' Conference teams up with the YMCA. Empowering young girls in our area.

    Last updated 1 month ago

The Xi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will host its 7th Annual Girls' Conference this Saturday, March 30, from 9am-3pm, and the YMCA proud to be one of its major partners!

The conference sets to empower young girls, grades 5-12, with workshops, activities and fun, in light of Women's History Month.

With workshop activities spotlighting physical fitness, total wellness, bullying prevention, financial literacy, and more, this free conference is sure to help provide a well-rounded appeal to our future leaders.

The Y will be present to deliver our nationally recognized PHD (Physical, Healthy, and Driven) program, which combats childhood obesity and inactivity using assessment, exercise, nutrition, education and family involvement. Last year alone 38,197 children participated in our PHD program. Our PHD program brings its Move Van out to mobilize healthy play. Last year the van touched the lives of 28,750 children and made 115 stops in the Washington metropolitan region.

The greatness of this conference doesn’t stop there...Like the conference's addition of STEM, providing the girls with exposure to science, technology, engineering and math.

This is another piece dear to our heart, since the Y has many influential programs that incorporate the use of STEM.

There will be an interactive writing/journaling workshop and an art beautification project for Seaton Elementary School’s community garden.

Get involved. Show up. And find out more information here. Hooray for a great time to come for our young girls!
